RAJASTHAN – HORSE SAFARI

horse-safari1

About our Horses

The horses we are using for our safaris are mostly pure breed Marwari, which is the native breed of this country. There also maybe cross bred, Kathiawari or Sindhi horses between. Most of them are between 14hh and 16hh.

In the past, only the warrior casts (Rajput families and the Kshatriyas) were permitted to ride this exalted, noble horses. So the chance to ride a Marwari is really a reason on its own to do a horseback safari in Rajasthan. There are not many breeds in the world which are as intriguing, noble and courageous as these former warhorses and mounts of the Maharajas and princes of India.

The exotic beauty and vigour of the Marwari horse is their lasting heritage. Marwari was bred to lift the heart in battle and please the eye. In sum this noble Indian horse is well proportioned. It can be recognized easily by its proud carriage, upright graceful neck coming out from an extremely well angulated shoulder. Further by his distinctive, aquiline and expressive head with a high forehead and straight or slightly Roman long face, giving a clean chiselled profile. Well defined rounded jaws, large and gently flared nostrils set over firm fine lips and an even bite are completing the profile. Not to forget the deep expressive large sparkling prominent eyes. And of course the most distinctive feature of a Marwari: The unique lyre or scimitar shaped ears set high on the poll and which can be turned by 180 degree.

The intelligence and natural regal bearing of the Marwari is blended with tremendous equipoise, graceful animated gaits and stamina. He displays an alert stillness when in repose and incredible elan vital in action. Hardiness and longevity have enabled the breed to survive wars, famine and droughts. The legs are straight and sound with small and very hard hooves. Their silky coat helps to keep them cool during the long summer months and often has a metallic shine. It comes in all colours, including piebald and skewbald.

Being bred over centuries in the harsh, dry and hot desert climate of Rajasthan the outcome was a hardy, intelligent horse which could thrive on little food and water and could bear the sun quite well. They are perfectly adapted to the extremely hard environmental conditions which make them to lean, slim and athletic but very fit horses. As a consequence of this they are usually narrower in build and thinner than horses in the west. The Marwari horses are spirited and extremely good forward going.

We choose all our safari horses with care to make sure to have the best suitable horses for our guests. Some of them are raised and trained by us. We are keeping our horses as natural as possible and we are care for them with love and affection. For the safaris we take only horses which are absolutely sound and in good shape. We are trying to find a suitable horse for each rider according to his riding skills and preferences.

JEWEL IN THE CROWN – GOLDEN TRIANGLE

Destinations Covered : Delhi-Agra-Jaipur

Delhi, Agra and Jaipur – they represent and unravel the mystique that is India. New Delhi, the elegant capital with its wide roads, sprawling gardens and stately buildings, stands on the site of seven historical cities built by the visionary rulers through the centuries. Agra, the capital of the glorious Mughal emperors, harbors the incomparable Taj Mahal, the exquisite marble monuments that attract millions of visitors every year. Jaipur is the enigmatic pink city of the Maharajas, the city of pomp and splendor, of colour and festivity, of a rich and regal past that continues into the present.

This is the golden triangle – a visit to which is essential to get a glimpse of India’s rich past. Though the cities are a very different in character from each other, their histories have been interconnected, bringing about a similarity in culture, tradition and lifestyle.

Under the grand Mughals, the three cities were linked through political alliances and cultural interchange. Hindu and Muslim traditions influenced architecture, arts and crafts and the result was a unique synthesis, which was reflected, in the literary life and performing arts of the cities.

With the establishment of British India, these three centers were absorbed within the fold of the empire and their colorful histories took a new turn into the future. Located at a motorable distance from each other, these cities are easily accessible and are a must see for every tourist.

Day 01: ARRIVE DELHI
Late evening: On arrival in Delhi by your international flight, meet and greet at the airport and transfer to hotel for immediate occupancy.

How this particular trip makes a difference to the local community / environment :

The day with the musicians help them to promote their art forms, make known to the rest of the world their musical styles and also provides with them a source of income which given the nature of festivals in Kerala is seasonal. These are also lower caste members of the communities who otherwise, wouldn’t get an opportunity to perform in esteemed musical gathering.

Visit to potters and weavers community is an appreciation to the efforts to rehabilitate the local artisians. Our visits expand the knowledge about the program and provide them financial support.

Spice tours were initiated to support small time farmers and spice planters in and around Wayanad areas to find alternative, supplementary source of income. This provides a glimpse of the issues surrounding the struggles of spice farmers in terms of price crash and issues of globalization.

Trekkers and guides are from the local communities and the programs are operated by them. These are people who live on the fringes of the wildlife areas. All parts of our trek routes and campsite follows zero waste management. During and after every trek, we collect and dispose plastic waste that might have been left behind by other tourists and local people.
